Lake Neuchâtel is the largest entirely Swiss lake with a surface area of almost 220 km2. It communicates with Lakes Biel and Murten via the Thielle and Broye canals. Dotted with nature reserves on its southern shore, it is home to many animal species and is recognized as an internationally important wintering area for waterbirds.
